On Sunday, April 26, 2026, over 50,000 runners will transform the streets of London into the world’s largest street party.
Whether you are tracking a loved one or just want to soak up the spine-tingling atmosphere, the secret to a successful Marathon day is planning.
From the best “double-view” spots to the pubs with the best post-race vibes, here is your essential guide to the 2026 TCS London Marathon.
1. Key Race Day Timings
- 08:50 AM: Elite Wheelchair Races
- 09:05 AM: Elite Women’s Field
09:35 AM: Elite Men and the Mass Participation Start
Location: The race begins at Blackheath/Greenwich Park and finishes on The Mall.
2. The Best Spectator Spots (The Insider’s Picks)
Pro Hack (The Double-View): Watch the runners at Mile 13 (Tower Bridge), then walk 15 minutes to Mile 22 (Lower Thames Street). You get to cheer them on twice without using a single train!
| Spot | Mile | Why Go? | Nearest Station |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cutty Sark | 6 | High energy and iconic photos of the ship. | Cutty Sark DLR |
| Tower Bridge | 12.5 | The most famous view in world running. Expect huge crowds. | Tower Hill / London Bridge |
| Canary Wharf | 18 | Modern “canyon” feel; you can see runners twice here. | Canary Wharf (Jubilee/Elizabeth/DLR) |
| Rainbow Row | 21 | High-energy music and “Butcher Row” party vibes. | Limehouse DLR |
| The Embankment | 25 | Where the “wall” is hit and the crowd carries them home. | Embankment / Westminster |
3. Best Pubs & Hubs Along the Route
Don’t just stand on a curb by yourself at one of these legendary spots.
The Spanish Galleon (Greenwich – Mile 6)
A Grade II-listed pub right next to the Cutty Sark. Perfect for a mid-morning pint while the early waves pass.

- Market Halls Victoria (The Finish Line Hub)
With 9 kitchens and 3 bars, this is the ultimate place to meet your runner after the race. It’s warm, has plenty of seating, and a rooftop bar.

4. Logistics & Transport Hacks
The “New Line” Strategy: Avoid the Jubilee Line if possible it gets incredibly congested. Instead, use the Elizabeth Line to reach Canary Wharf or the Windrush Overground Line (Red) to reach Surrey Quays (Mile 9).
The Official App: Download the TCS London Marathon App (available March 2026). It allows you to track up to 20 runners in real-time using their bib chip.
Road Closures: Be aware that Central London is effectively “bisected” by the race. Roads in Greenwich, Bermondsey, and the City will close from 06:00 AM and won’t reopen until the evening.
5. Where to Meet Your Runner
Never try to meet at the finish line (The Mall) it’s impossible.
The Meeting Point: Head to Horse Guards Parade. There are giant “Letter Poles” (A-Z). Pick a letter before the race (e.g., “M for Marathon”) and meet there.
